The Trouble with Heroes

Essay (780 words)

A rather charmingly self-deprecatory piece published in Suspense Magazine as one of a series of "Meet the Author" essays. Canning deplores the way heroes have to behave stupidly, since if they did the straightforward thing of ringing the police, there would be no story.

Suspense, August 1960.

Included in A Rex Carver Companion, 2009.
