The Girl and the Bearded Beachcomber

This is one of several stories which appeared in the This Week supplement to a number of North American newspapers, but does not seem to have been published in Britain.

It is narrated by a talkative barber on an island in the Bahamas, who asserts that listening to a barber's chatter can be useful. He describes the romance between an island beachcomber and the lady's maid of a duchess whose yacht is visiting the island. But the yacht's engineer is jealous and vindictive …
